How is The ERCP Procedure Done?

Before the procedure, the medical team will sedate the patient. The patient is then turned to one side and the endoscope is inserted. It may cause gagging. To prevent this, the medical team will spray an anesthetic into the back of your throat. 

When you are fully sedated, the endoscope will navigate the duodenum through the esophagus and stomach. Air will be passed into the stomach and duodenum so that the doctor can see the organs.
