Overview
Renal transplantation surgery is a process to put a healthy kidney from a deceased or living donor into an individual whose kidneys no longer operate appropriately. When kidneys lose filtering ability, dangerous levels of fluid and waste build up in the body, and this can raise the blood pressure and result in kidney failure. People with kidney failure need to have waste eliminated from their bloodstream through dialysis or a renal transplant to stay active. At Max Hospital, India, Renal transplantation surgery is executed by experts with superior outcomes.
Symptoms of kidney failure may comprise
- Decreased urine output
- Chest pain or pressure
- Fluid retention, resulting in swelling of the feet, ankles or legs
- Irregular heartbeat
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea
- Confusion
- Seizures or coma in severe cases
- Weakness
Medical test/diagnosis
Once you have chosen a transplant center, you will be assessed to determine whether you meet the eligibility requirements for a kidney transplant. The team at the transplant center will evaluate whether you:- Have any medical conditions that would impede transplant success
- Are healthy enough to have surgical treatment and accept lifelong post-transplant medications
- A detailed physical exam
- Imaging studies, such as CT scans, MRI or X-ray
- Psychological evaluation
- Blood tests
- Any other necessary testing as determined by your doctor
Post-surgery recovery/precautions
- You will usually spend several days in the hospital after the surgery.
- It would help if your kidney starts making urine right away. But if your new kidney is not generating urine immediately, you will need to continue on dialysis till this happens.
- The doctors will regulate your immunosuppressant medications, and observe you for signs that your body is accepting the new kidney.
- Once you have fully recovered, you will be discharged from the hospital and continue recovering at home.
