Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer that is developed in the prostate gland of a male reproductive system. In most of cases prostate cancers grow slowly; however, some grow relatively quick, it might be possible that cancer cells may spread from the prostate to other parts of the body, majorly in the bones and nodes. As it develops slowly so initially it may cause no symptoms for many years but later it may lead to difficulties such as problem while urinating. Mostly this type of cancer occurs in men older than age 65.
The Prostate is a small gland that is located in a male’s lower abdomen; it is under the bladder that surrounds the urethra. This gland is regulated by the testosterone and produces seminal fluid, also known as semen.
What distinguishes Urologic Oncology from Urology?
Urologic oncology and urology differ in their specialisation areas. While urologic oncologists focus on cancers of the male and female reproductive systems, as well as the male urinary system, urologists handle various conditions affecting the male and female urinary tracts.
Which types of Cancer do Urologists treat?
In addition to prostate cancer, urologists can treat male infertility, kidney stones, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and other related conditions. They often diagnose prostate cancer in patients.
Is Urinary Cancer curable?
Treatment for urinary cancers usually leads to a cure. During long-term follow-up care, the more superficial cancers are frequently detected in the bladder or other parts of the urinary system. While these new cancers require treatment, they are rarely highly invasive or fatal.
What is the most common Urologic Cancer?
Prostate cancer is the most prevalent urologic cancer among men of all racial/ethnic backgrounds. Other frequently encountered locations for cancer include the urinary bladder, kidney or renal pelvis, testis, ureter, urethra, and penis.
Can Bladder Cancer spread rapidly?
Bladder cancer, even in its early stages, can be of high grade, indicating a potential for rapid growth and spread. If you have bladder cancer in situ, immediate treatment by a doctor is necessary.
